The Kase Starglow filter has been created in collaboration with Alyn Wallace Photography. Made from toughened Kase Wolverine glass, the filter is designed to make bright stars glow and bloat whilst also accentuating their natural colour. It simultaneously hides the fainter stars making constellations pop and stand out. Unveil the glory of the constellations and take your astrophotography to a whole new level.
HOW IT WORKS
The filter can be used in 3 different ways:
1) IN A FILTER HOLDER COVERING THE ENTIRE LENS
As the filter is 2mm thick it is compatible with most filter holders on the market but is a perfect match for the K9 Slim 100mm holder kit. Covering the entire lens will produce the Starglow effect on the night sky and also add a dreamy effect to the foreground, with some decrease in contrast and clarity. Foreground detail can be recovered using Dehaze and Clarity sliders to produce an atmospheric image with ethereal qualities.
2) IN A FILTER HOLDER COVERING HALF THE LENS
If you don’t want the dreamy effect on the foreground the filter can simply be placed halfway into the filter holder to protect the foreground. No clear line is visible where the filter starts and ends. If there are large mountains or trees protruding above the horizon they may be affected but as distant objects tend to fade and lose clarity the image will still look natural.
3) SHAKE IT LIKE A STARGLOW FILTER!
The filter can also be used handheld by simply waving it in front of the lens. This allows you to control the strength of the Starglow effect by holding it in front of the lens for a longer or shorter period of time. You can also protect the foreground by only waving it in front of the top half of your lens. Using this technique the filter is compatible with lenses that don’t take 100mm filters such as the Samyang 14mm f/2.8 and Sigma 14mm f/1.8 Art. One filter compatible with all your lenses.
UNVEIL THE GLORY OF THE CONSTELLATIONS
The filter makes constellation photography a joy, opening up new possibilities in your astrophotography. When Milky Way core season comes to an end you can now take full advantage of the bright stars and constellations of the winter night sky, such as Orion, Gemini, and Leo. Those in the Northern Hemisphere can enjoy photographing the circumpolar constellations Ursa Major (The Big Dipper) and Cassiopeia, and those in the Southern Hemisphere can make the Crux pop out like never before. The filter also works great on planets.
